About the Role

Medical Assistants provide non-licensed medical support to medical care providers in an outpatient setting. Incumbents room patients; set up equipment and instruments; independently perform, and/or assist providers with performing, exams and procedures, including administering injections; with proper provider authorization, provide instructions, training and advice to patients; call in prescriptions; clean and calibrate equipment; clean and stock exam rooms; and provide proper documentation in patient chart. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis. Positions at this level provide the full range of duties described above.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care (70%): Room patients; set up equipment and instruments; independently perform and/or assist providers with exams and procedures including administering injections; with proper provider authorization, provide instructions, training and advice to patients; call in prescriptions; clean and calibrate equipment; clean and stock exam rooms.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping (10%): Provide proper documentation in patient chart.
  • Coordinating Medical Care (5%): Coordinate medical care as needed.

  • Department/Clinic Coordination (5%): Provide department and clinic coordination support.
  • Additional Job Functions (5%): Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR certification. Current CPR and renewal bi-annually.
  • Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant training program.
  • No minimum work experience required.
  • Ability to pass the safe to practice pharmacology exam.
  • Ability to utilize relevant medical terminology.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and provide excellent customer service to the target audience.

Department Overview

The Department of Urology offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for adult and pediatric urological conditions such as urinary incontinence, prostate and kidney cancers, kidney stones, male infertility and kidney dysfunction. Our urologists work with specialists across UC Davis Health to provide comprehensive care. Frequent partners include nephrologists, pediatricians, gynecologists and medical oncologists.

Pay

Salary Range: $29.78 - $37.02 per hour (Grade 182).

Schedule

100% full-time, career position. Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts. This position is 100% on-site at 48X (4868XST).

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.   • Ability to lift, move, and/or position patients as necessary to room them and prepare them for exams and procedures.
  • May be required to have the ability to retrieve and file bulky medical record charts (up to 3" thick) stored in filing cabinets and on shelves that may be above shoulder level and below waist level, and to efficiently transport multiple charts weighing 5 to 25 pounds throughout the medical office.
  • Must be willing to work variable days (including weekends), hours and locations as required to meet business needs of the practice.
