Media Technologies Specialist (SY26-27)

Duties

• Manages the infusion of distance learning technologies across the school district’s interactive videoconferencing and video broadcasting networks, including net interactive videoconferencing initiatives and grants within the schools.
• Manages the development of educational programming and video production for the school district.
• Manages multimedia production, distribution, and archiving for Columbus City Schools.
• Researches and recommends purchases for the most cost-effective technology and production equipment for creating and distributing multimedia content.
• Provides multimedia support for all Columbus Board of Education meetings, community forums, work sessions, and Columbus City Schools live events.
• Develops, implements, and manages video policy and procedures for the operation, scheduling, and maintenance of the video networks.
• Trains Columbus City Schools staff to operate videoconferencing equipment.
• Establishes and maintains current inventory of all proprietary network servers, hardware, software, and peripherals in the District; performs maintenance on multimedia data networks and servers.
• Researches and acquires video programming to support the distance learning and educational technology goals of the District.
• Approves content prior to it being uploaded to social media.
• Works with consultants, freelancers, and technology employees to complete network construction and configuration projects.
• Affords assistance in the evaluation of the effectiveness of distance learning technologies instruction.

Departmental Duties & Preferences

• Working within a team, or solely, manages video production for district initiatives, including promo videos, news packages, department overviews, ad campaigns, podcasts, and other creative projects as assigned.
• Acts as a producer to plan for and coordinate video projects.
• Acts as a videographer to capture b-roll and interviews.
• Acts as an editor to post-product videos.
• Supports live events, press conferences, public meetings, professional development, graduations, and other in-person activities via live-streaming, video production, audio mixing, A/V support, photography and other multimedia services.
• Uses photography to document and promote district events, our schools and our students; able to take professional headshots of distract staff.
• Uses drones (UAS) to capture exteriors of all district buildings and grounds to support communications and facilities initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of the basic principles and types of television cameras, video tape equipment, lighting, sound mixing, and still cameras;
• Thorough knowledge of multimedia presentations and production;
• Thorough knowledge of telecommunication technologies including video production techniques and interactive distance learning technologies;
• Thorough knowledge of nonlinear editing software;
• General knowledge of social media platforms and formatting;
• General knowledge of computer applications for cataloging, publishing, and producing graphics;
• Ability to set-up and operate audio visual equipment;
• Ability to maintain and repair audio visual equipment;
• Ability to produce, direct, and design studio production activities;
• Ability to develop and maintain a distribution system of audio visual equipment and materials;
• Ability to operate a computer and utilize related software;
• Ability to coordinate the work of others;
• Ability to develop and maintain records;
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, coworkers, vendors, and the general public;
