About the role

We’re looking for a Media Systems Engineer to serve as the technological backbone of our central and western Nebraska stations. In this role, you’ll maintain critical broadcast infrastructure, drive technical innovation, and ensure seamless live operations—keeping our communities connected and informed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and evolve broadcast systems across Hastings, Grand Island, North Platte, and all tower sites.
  • Execute a strategic plan to modernize technology, ensuring a digital-first approach.
  • Provide expert engineering support for studios, post-editing suites, and field production teams.
  • Ensure all equipment is ready for live broadcasts and streaming events, troubleshooting and documenting technical issues.
  • Manage FCC and FAA regulatory compliance for all technical components.
  • Monitor multiple air channels and transmitters to maintain high-quality, high-definition output.
  • Leverage deep knowledge of server and desktop operating systems to optimize newsgathering, weather, and graphic systems.

Requirements

  • Engineering or electronics degree (or equivalent experience) plus 2–3 years in broadcast or professional tech.
  • Proficiency with IP-based video/audio transport and streaming technologies.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during live broadcasts.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical teams.
  • Clean driving record and willingness to travel to Nebraska properties (occasional overnights required).
  • Availability to support a 24/7 news operation.
