Med Tech (NOC Shift)

About the Role

The Medication Technician plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community, and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to administer medications within the scope of your license and provide assigned residents with daily resident care and services as directed and in accordance with established care plans.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications according to health care provider instructions following the Medication Administration Record and within the scope of your license.
• Maintain accurate documentation of medication administration, effectiveness, and any noted side effects, in accordance with established policy and procedures, standards of care, and applicable state/federal regulations.
• Report any adverse reactions or side effects to supervisor or Director of Nursing.
• Perform personal care activities including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, skin care/nail care, oral hygiene, shaving, and others as directed.
• Assist in dining rooms to provide resident care and monitoring.
• Initiate and participate in leisure activities for residents; encourage socialization and participation in planned activities.
• Observe and report the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the nurse.
• Respond promptly and courteously to resident requests for assistance.
• Promote personal safety and a safe environment by observing infection control, fire safety, and hazardous materials guidelines; report unsafe situations to the nurse.
• Assist residents in preparing for appointments and social programs.
• Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.
• Check each resident routinely to ensure personal care needs are being met.
• Provide special resident services offered by the facility.
• Provide physical support to assist residents with daily living activities (e.g., transferring, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, exercising).
• Serve and assist with meals, and take vital signs.
• Observe and document residents' health, behavior, physical, and emotional conditions; report changes to the nurse.
• Respond promptly to resident call signals, bells, or intercom systems to determine needs.
• Communicate with nurses on resident conditions, changes, and concerns.
• Provide companionship, comfort, and support to residents.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

• Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
• Tactful communication with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies.
• Capability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset individuals.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with supervisors, team members, residents, and families.
• Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for the position.
• Prefer 6 months or more of experience in a home care, assisted living, or long-term care facility.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; moving, lifting, or transferring residents may involve lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry patients.
• Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach.
• Fine motor skills.

Cognitive Requirements

• Ability to execute tasks independently.
• Clear and effective verbal communication skills.
• Ability to concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions.
• Visual acuity and hearing alertness.

Environmental Requirements

• Exposure to ambient room temperatures and lighting.
• Potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory requirements.
