About the role

The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents of the community as well as assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position
• Affords assistance to residents with activities of daily living
• Administers prescribed medications within the established scope of practice
• Reports incidents involving residents to include care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (ex: HCD, RN/LPN, or ED)
• Performs housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc. as directed by supervisor
• Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
• Planners and conducts activity programs for residents
• Fulfills confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information
• Affords assistance to residents to and from the dining room, and to and from activities
• Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities
• Reports status or concerns to appropriate individuals regarding residents who are ill
• Communicates verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers
• Affords assistance to new residents with move-in transition: provides emotional support
• Completes medication cart audits as assigned and maintains the medication cart as directed
• Passes all medication administration observations
• Reorders medications, faxes to pharmacy, communicates with resident family/RP as needed with changes. Reports in Daily Log
• Documents all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR. Reports all exceptions to the HCD and documented on EMAR and Daily Log
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completed the Medication Aide Course
• Current CNA and Med Tech license from the State Board of Nursing in good standing
• Satisfactorily passes 2 medication observations annually
• Satisfactorily passes all medication cart audits assigned
• Attends 4 additional hours of medication administration education annually
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
• A contributing member of nursing team and follows instruction of supervisor
• Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
• Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
• Able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
• Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
• In designated uniform during working hours, to include name badge and a smile
• CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
• Able to represent the community in a positive and professional manner
• Attends and completes all required in-services and staff meetings
• Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
• Able to remain calm and competent during emergencies
