About the Role

The Medication Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely distribution and documentation of medication for residents in accordance with physician’s orders and applicable regulations. This position requires adherence to federal, state, and local health standards, compassionate care for residents, and collaboration with peers in a congenial work environment. The employee may be subject to call-back during emergencies such as severe weather, evacuations, or staffing shortages.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately distribute and document medication for residents as directed by physician’s orders and regulations.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and dietary needs, following established Plans of Care.
  • Supervise and care for residents on a daily basis, addressing their physical, social, and emotional well-being.
  • Observe and record resident self-administration of medications, reporting refusals or reactions to the supervisor.
  • Communicate clearly and patiently with residents, families, and staff, directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Provide dining assistance and respond to emergency calls promptly, completing required paperwork afterward.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of residents' rooms, including laundry, waste disposal, and checking for safety hazards.
  • Document observations of changes in residents' conditions in logbooks and during shift-to-shift verbal reports.
  • Participate in in-service educational programs as required by the community and state.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including ordering meal trays, assisting with social activities, and reporting maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday and cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear (or use prosthetics) to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, or emotionally upset residents, including those who may be agitated.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. May assist in resident evacuations during emergencies.
