About the Role

The Med Tech position is a multifaceted role that involves being a care provider, medical aide, and leader within Waltonwood communities. Med Techs administer medication, work with Caregivers to ensure resident independence and safety, and assist with Activities of Daily Living. They report to the Wellness Coordinator and are an integral part of the Resident Care team, providing individualized care to seniors who need assistance with personal tasks.

Responsibilities

• Administer medication to residents based on resident medical charts.
• Follow protocols regarding documenting medication and restocking the med carts.
• Help with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for residents, including toileting, showering, assisting with meals, light cleaning, and other essential daily activities.
• Participate in shift change meetings to communicate with oncoming associates regarding resident status or special needs.
• Assist with janitorial tasks as needed.
• Act as a shift supervisor to ensure resident care needs are being properly met.
• Assist Caregivers during shifts with transfers and any other duties necessary.
• Work with physicians and the pharmacy to ensure medication is ordered properly.
• Report changes in resident medical conditions and behaviors to physicians, families, and community leadership.
• Communicate with multiple levels within and outside of the organization, including residents, families, Caregivers, Wellness Coordinator, Resident Care Manager, Wellness Nurses, pharmacies, and doctors.
• Provide emotional support to residents by treating them with respect, dignity, and maintaining a positive and cheerful appearance.
• Promote safety and wellbeing of residents through use of written and verbal procedures, safety equipment, and awareness of potential dangers.
• Assist with all other duties as assigned by the Wellness Coordinator and community leadership.

Expectations

Associates are expected to maintain regular attendance, defined as being on time and present for all scheduled shifts. Timeliness, punctuality, and dependability are critical. Associates should be willing to assist co-workers, welcome new associates and residents, and actively participate in accomplishing team, community, and company goals while keeping the best interests of residents and other associates in mind.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• In North Carolina, CNA certification is required.
• Caregiving or Med Tech experience is required.
• Experience working with the elderly and those with memory impairment.

Physical Requirements

• Constant use of manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
• Occasional exposure to hot water and cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to reach, bend, twist, squat, kneel, push, and pull.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds; 80 pounds of pressure may be placed on the associate during transfers using transfer belts or mechanical assists.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements including simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Constant standing and walking.
