Essential Duties
- Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administering of medications to residents.
- Note and report errors in the administration of medications.
- Absorb and implement procedures or programs aimed at identifying medication errors, their causes, and preventive measures.
- Perform administrative tasks like completing forms, charts, and reports as required.
- Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, doctors, and pharmacists.
- Report complaints or grievances to the Director of Nursing Services.
- Participate in facility surveys and Quality Assurance programs.
- Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications.
- Verify and identify medications brought in by new residents.
- Follow facility policies and procedures for disposing of medications.
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of medications.
- Document and remove discontinued medications.
- Notify the Director of Nursing Services about drug receipt errors.
- Ensure proper documentation and handling of medications for residents transferred out or whose prescriptions are discontinued.
- Observe and verify that medications are taken as prescribed.
- Report any adverse reactions to medications.
- Verify the identity of the resident before administering medication.
- Accurately measure and record vital signs.
- Allow residents to self-administer medications if permitted.
- Be familiar with medical abbreviations and terms relevant to medication administration.
- Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
- Agree not to disclose resident's protected health information.
- Report any unauthorized attempts to access the facility's information system.
- Perform all assigned tasks according to established policies and procedures.
- Complete assigned tasks within scheduled work hours.
- Collaborate with other departments to maintain adequate nursing services.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information.
- Report any unauthorized disclosures of such information.
- Supervisory Requirements: No supervisor responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successfully completed a state-approved training program and any necessary examinations related to medication aide licensure.
