About the role
The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents of the community, as well as assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice
- Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position
- Assist residents with activities of daily living
- Report incidents involving residents, including care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED)
- Perform housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, and dining room, as directed by supervisor
- Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
- Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents
- Follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information
- Assist residents to and from the dining room and activities
- Check on residents, ensure attendance at meals and activities
- Monitor residents who are ill and report status or concerns to appropriate individuals
- Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers
- Assist new residents with move-in transition and provide emotional support
- Attend all medication trainings scheduled
- Complete medication cart audits as assigned and maintain the medication cart as directed
- Pass all medication administration observations
- Communicate all medication resident needs to the HCD and document in the Daily Log
- Re-order medications, fax to pharmacy, and communicate with resident family/RP as needed with changes
- Document all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR
- Report all exceptions to the HCD and document on EMAR and Daily Log
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of the Medication Aide Course
- Current CNA and Med Tech license from the State Board of Nursing in good standing
- Satisfactorily pass 2 medication observations annually
- Satisfactorily pass all medication cart audits assigned
- Attend 4 additional hours of medication administration education annually
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
- Contributing member of the nursing team and follow instruction of supervisor
- Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
- Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
- Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
- Wear designated uniform during working hours, including name badge and a smile
- CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
- Represent the community in a positive and professional manner
- Attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings
- Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
- Able to remain calm and competent during emergencies
