About the role

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Med Lab Scientist to process laboratory specimens and report results in various areas of the clinical laboratory. This role involves maintaining laboratory records, adhering to policies and procedures, and ensuring quality control practices.

Responsibilities

  • Function in all areas of the clinical laboratory including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, and urinalysis.
  • Perform moderate and high-complexity testing.
  • Adjust methods and procedures for neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Conduct quality control procedures and instrument checks.
  • Notify nursing units and physicians of critical lab values.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records for statistics and billing purposes.
  • Interact professionally with the Director of Clinical Laboratory, Pathologist, and other clinical laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve patient care and performance.
  • Ensure patient safety and reduce the risk of medical errors.
  • Operate laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
  • Stay updated on new testing methods, products, and instrumentation.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, CAP, JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Adapt to stressful situations and demonstrate teamwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university, or equivalent military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489.
  • 2 years as a medical technologist in an acute care facility, or 1 year as a medical technologist in an acute care facility and a Master’s degree.
  • Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS).
  • Licensure as required by State.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Operate microscopes, centrifuges, hematology, chemistry, and other instrumentation correctly and safely.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient care.
  • Ability to manage and operate laboratory equipment safely.
  • Continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies.
