About the role

Performs tests related to the diagnosis and treatment of patients by utilizing various medical laboratory procedures in the Clinical Laboratory. Correlates and integrates other patient data when interpreting test results. Uses professional judgment and has an in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, scientific principles, quality control, and instrument maintenance. Recognizes problems, identifies causes, and determines alternative methods and solutions.

Schedule

Night shift with excellent work-life balance: 14 days off every four weeks on a seven-days-on, seven-days-off rotation. Shift runs 8:30 PM to (presumed) 8:30 AM, Thursday through Wednesday, followed by Thursday through Wednesday off.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology/Coagulation, Microbiology, and Specialty Chemistry.
• Perform, record, and review scheduled quality control; take immediate corrective action when QC data is outside established limits.
• Perform and record routine maintenance of equipment; recognize and document poor instrument performance and act independently.
• Verify specimen labeling, integrity, and suitability before testing.
• Accurately perform low-, medium-, and high-complexity testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Report test results accurately and appropriately; report critical results to physicians or nursing stations per protocol.
• Prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency; use spare time to assist other areas as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy when needed according to laboratory policies and procedures.
• Monitor supply inventory and ensure needed supplies are readily available.
• Review work performed by clinical laboratory assistants and perform corrective actions if required.
• Perform expected tasks without direct supervision.
• Ensure accuracy of reported work by examining review lists, pending logs, and similar tools; resolve problems immediately and communicate with oncoming shift, nurses, or physicians as appropriate.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or equivalent certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) required, or registry-eligible and obtained within one year of hire.
• Completion of medical technology training required.
