The listed pay range reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ based on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

About the Role

Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary. Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens. Assists physicians and other staff as needed. Selects appropriate equipment prior to collection to streamline processes and verifies specimen orders per department policy. Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms. Performs clerical duties including patient registration, answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and distributing reports.

Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests, including point-of-care testing, following established policies and universal precautions. Documents medical information in electronic medical records, including medication and refill information. Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff to ensure adherence to policies and procedures in support of patient service. Assists in front office functions such as checkout duties, claim creation, referrals, patient education, and insurance eligibility verification.

Performs injections (subcutaneous or intramuscular) in accordance with Capital Health policies. Cross-trained to perform Patient Reception Rep duties as needed. Completes NJPMP (New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program) requirements, including uploading a notarized access form and monitoring under the direction of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms, maintain supplies, and perform clerical duties (registration, scheduling, records management).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by NHA, CAHEA, ABHES, or a U.S. Department of Education-recognized agency. Program must include at least 330 clock hours of instruction, covering intramuscular/subcutaneous injections, anatomy, sterile technique, hazards, and emergency procedures.
  • Current certification from AAMA, NCCT, AMCA, NAHP, NCMA, AMT, or another recognized certifying body.
  • AHA BLS certification (must obtain before the end of the orientation period).

Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of insurance specifications and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in phone etiquette and data entry.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain composure in stressful situations, and follow detailed instructions.
  • Willingness to take delegation from RNs/LPNs and exhibit cooperation and flexibility.
  • Basic computer skills and medical record management.
  • Consistency and timeliness in attendance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequent: Standing, walking, reaching forward, wrist deviation, pinching/fine motor activities, carrying objects, keyboard use, talking/hearing.
  • Occasional: Sitting, climbing (stairs/ladders), pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching overhead, squatting/kneeling/crawling.
  • Lifting: Up to 40 lbs (floor to waist and waist level and above).
  • Sensory Requirements: Very accurate 20/40 near/far vision, color discrimination, moderate depth perception, accurate hearing.
  • Exposure Risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, dust/particulate matter.

Pay

Pay Range: $19.32 - $24.13 per hour (full-time equivalent).

Schedule

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 (full-time). Usual workday: 8 hours.
