Mechatronics Engineer, Amazon Robotics (AR)
About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechatronics Robot Analyst to join our team developing advanced robotic hardware technology. This role focuses on comprehensive performance evaluation, design validation, and optimization of robotic systems at scale. You will create detailed technical reports examining robot dynamics, kinematics, and performance characteristics to support the development and deployment of innovative automation solutions. A critical aspect of this role is producing data-informed insights for customer requirement negotiations and clarifying ambiguity in design specifications—you'll need to prioritize assessment efforts, establish what matters most, and continuously refine both the design and examination processes to improve our capability to deliver robotic systems over time.
Responsibilities
- Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation, and testing
- Intake robotic concepts and high-level requirements and create kinematic concepts based on a family of components
- Perform basic first-principles examination of loads and feasibility checks
- Generate URDF files
- Drive dynamics evaluation using MATLAB dynamics examination tools
- Interpret outputs of the assessment and feed back into further iteration on robot concepts
- Collaborate directly with customers to align on requirements, discuss tradeoffs, and communicate concepts clearly
- Code/script in MATLAB
- Exhibit thorough engineering assessments and cradle-to-grave ownership
- Design and adapt holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements
- Work with cross-functional teams, vendors, and integrators to deliver automation solutions
Requirements
- 5+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, or analyzing robotic systems
- Strong understanding of robot dynamics and kinematics principles
- Proficiency with CAD software, particularly SolidWorks, for mechanical design analysis
- Deep knowledge of actuator hardware including motors, gearboxes, and electrical components
- Strong MATLAB coding skills for analysis and simulation
- Experience working with and adapting existing codebases to solve new problems
- Excellent ability to handle ambiguity, prioritize work, and determine critical analysis needs
- Strong technical documentation and verbal communication skills
- Passion for developing robotic hardware technology and bringing systems to production scale
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools and modern development workflows
- Familiarity with robot performance characterization and testing methodologies
- Background in production robotics or warehouse automation
- System-level understanding of robotic systems including controls and motion planning
- Track record of translating analysis results into practical engineering decisions and process improvements
Benefits
- Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
- Maternity and Parental Leave Options
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- 401(k) Plan
- Sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs)
- Health insurance (including Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts)
