Mechanical Technician Intern
Koch Methanol in St. James, Louisiana offers a 12-week Mechanical Technician Internship for Summer 2027, running from late May to mid-August 2027.
About the role
As an intern, you will support the safe and reliable operation of a methanol facility by performing preventive maintenance activities and equipment inspections. You will learn precision maintenance practices while working alongside experienced technicians in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, and other critical plant assets.
- Support repairs and inspections of fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, boilers, furnaces, and heaters.
- Partner with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, plan repairs, and improve plant reliability and uptime.
- Gain hands-on experience using tools, equipment, and maintenance processes representative of full-time mechanical technicians.
Requirements
- Climbing stairs, ladders, and working at heights.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel as necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of, a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program (e.g., Welding, Boilermaking, Pipefitting, Millwrighting).
- Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028.
- Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or sponsorship.
Skills
The following experiences will put you ahead:
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
- Previous armed forces experience as an aircraft mechanic, aircraft structural maintenance specialist, or other relevant military experience.
- Precision maintenance, machinist experience, or hands-on training.
- Experience maintaining or repairing rotating or fixed equipment.
