Mechanical Systems Design Subject Matter Expert
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Mechanical Systems Design Subject Matter Expert to join the team of a leader in the Aerospace & Defense space. This role will serve as a technical authority for mechanical design work, with a focus on developing and refining structural framing concepts that support demanding engineering and manufacturing requirements. The position will partner closely with customer, manufacturing, and supply teams to improve design outcomes, resolve failures, and strengthen execution across current and future R&D initiatives. It is well suited for a hands-on engineer who can combine deep materials knowledge with practical design judgment and cross-functional influence. Location: Remote - US based candidates only.
Responsibilities
- Create and optimize detailed metal framing concepts using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks
- Ensure framing designs comply with fabrication limitations and applicable building codes
- Evaluate structural failures and provide data-driven corrective actions
- Act as a technical liaison between customers, manufacturing, and supply partners
- Mentor engineers and production staff on mechanical design best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- 8-10 years of relevant hands-on industry experience
- Deep understanding of metallurgy and the mechanical properties of materials
- Ability to work fully remote with approximately 50% travel

Pay
$110,000 – $130,000 annually
