Primary Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems architecture, including mechanical interfaces while partnering with other architects to support a common architecture vision and strategy.
- Lead teams within the organization to solve architectural and implementation problems.
- Stay abreast on current and accelerating new technologies, best practices, and contemporary mechanical engineering and simulation tools and methodologies.
- Stay abreast of external standards that directly impact the drives industry and advise the business on impacts and response.
- Guide teams who are designing products that adhere to these standards.
- Collaborate with peer systems architects in other business units to create a common architecture vision.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to facilitate delivery of simplified and unique products and solutions that solve real-world customer problems at the best cost points.
- Create system and product level architectural documents that explain the functionality, design intent, and interfaces between components and assemblies at the right level for implementation by engineering.
- Create proof of concept deliverables, define logical work sequencing, and map a clear process for product integration.
- Advise the business on supplier selection to ensure we work with best partners possible.
- Be an independent voice in liaising between product management and functional/technical leads within the business to clarify requirements, understand concepts and issues, and resolve problems and anomalies.
- Influence decisions within multiple teams across Rockwell Automation.
- Develop a product, system, and customer view.
- Be an abstract thinker and step away from the details to look at "the big picture" and convey architectural vision.
- Demonstrate expertise through customer support, presentations, and white papers
The Essentials
- You Will Have Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required.

The Preferred
- You Might Also Have Graduate degree relevant to mechanical engineering or equivalent in-depth knowledge and experience.
- Typically requires 8+ years system level design experience in mechanical systems.
- Experience working as a design and technical leader who builds partnerships in a matrixed environment and directs the activities of other employees.
- Significant experience designing drive hardware and mechanical systems including design for manufacturability considerations.
- Expertise in simulating mechanical systems. Skilled user of ANSYS tools including mechanical, ICEPAK, Electronic Desktop, Sherlock; Multiphysics simulations or demonstrated success with other tools where knowledge would carry over.
- Possesses an understanding of how customers use motor drive products and how they fit into target applications and system environments.
- Understands the competitive landscape for our technology and products.
- Breath of knowledge and expertise across multiple engineering disciplines DFSS black belt.
- Experience with prototyping processes including SLA and 3D printing.
