Responsibilities
- Aid in estimating for HVAC and mechanical scopes and provide preconstruction services
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop CPM schedules, focusing on HVAC procurement, installation, startup, and turnover milestones
- Develop and maintain project site logistics plans for HVAC equipment deliveries, material staging, crane picks, and installation sequencing
- Ensure a thorough understanding of contract documents, mechanical drawings, specifications, coordination drawings, and project requirements
- Manage labor forces and coordinate trade foremen to optimize performance on HVAC scopes
- Review and understand material budgets and support equipment purchases
- Monitor project costs, labor productivity, and installation performance; identify areas for improvement
- Lead the quality process for HVAC systems, including layout, installation, testing, balancing, startup, and commissioning readiness
- Lead safety and accident prevention programs for all HVAC and mechanical field activities
- Document daily construction activities related to HVAC progress, manpower, deliveries, issues, and inspections
- Chair or support weekly subcontractor and trade coordination meetings, focusing on HVAC interfaces and sequencing
- Develop and maintain short-term schedules for HVAC work activities
- Support Project Engineers in the shop drawing and submittal process for HVAC equipment, controls, and related materials
- Verify that as-built drawings and field markups for HVAC systems are up-to-date
- Implement all applicable safety programs and EEO/Affirmative Action programs
- Coordinate HVAC work with other trades including electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and general trades to minimize conflicts and maintain production flow
- Lead field execution for ductwork, piping, equipment setting, controls coordination, startup activities, and final turnover of HVAC systems
- Support inspections, testing requirements, punch list completion, and owner turnover documentation for HVAC systems
- Identify and resolve field issues related to constructability, installation sequence, manpower planning, and system completion
Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of applicable field leadership experience
- Significant experience in HVAC, mechanical, or MEP construction field operations
- Previous experience directing and coordinating HVAC/mechanical trades
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, construction principles, field practices, and sequencing requirements
- Experience leading installation of ductwork, piping, mechanical equipment, and related HVAC systems
- Self-perform construction management experience highly preferred
- Previous experience working closely with Project Management teams through successful completion of project phases
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and production performance
- Preferred experience with self-perform mechanical or HVAC work
- Experience coordinating startup, testing, balancing, commissioning, and turnover processes
- Experience working in occupied facilities, complex phasing environments, or technically challenging mechanical projects
- Familiarity with field technology, scheduling tools, and construction documentation platforms
- Strong field presence and ability to lead crews and foremen effectively
- Ability to coordinate across multiple trades and maintain schedule commitments
- Consistent focus on safety, quality, planning, and accountability
- Ability to anticipate issues, solve problems in the field, and drive work to completion
