Mechanical Superintendent Construction

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee mechanical construction of the leach plant circuit expansion, paste plant and surface facilities for the underground projects.
  • Manage construction contractors, oversee quality control of contractor work, and work with the owner’s team to ensure implementation of best practices for maintenance and operation of new equipment and facilities.
  • Comply with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.
  • Report all personal injuries and incidents and assist with investigations.
  • Support and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.
  • Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.
  • Coordinate incident investigations that occur within the area of control.
  • Participates in planning meetings to review drawings, determine priorities, and assist in scheduling the work.
  • Establishes and monitors mechanical construction methods and practices for most effective cost control for work schedule, labor, materials, and equipment needs.
  • Works with project manager for the control, care/protection, and use of tools, equipment, and company assets on site.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to maximize efficiency and prevent delays.
  • Aids project manager and engineer with change orders and extra work requests.
  • Schedules major process equipment deliveries.
  • Coordinates mechanical work with civil and electrical work.
  • Coordinates with process equipment vendors at start-up.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure the likelihood that workmanship conforms to specifications and meets construction schedules.
  • Meets regularly with engineer and inspectors regarding required work, quality of work, and other job-related issues.
  • Confers with project manager, engineer, and inspectors to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.

Health, Safety

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with surface facilities for a hard rock operation.
  • 15+ years’ relevant experience of which 5+ years would have been in a senior construction role.
  • Experienced with both start-up projects and operating environments.
  • Trade Qualifications or Degree in Engineering or related discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical).
  • MSHA 40 HR Trained or past MSHA training.
  • Ability to manage dispute resolution and issues effecting project delivery.
  • Strong results orientation and ability to consistently deliver against the plan.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative working style, building strong internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in cross cultural environments.
  • Ability to engage external consultants and contractors.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and prioritization capabilities.
  • Motivated self-starter who can operate autonomously and is a natural leader.
  • A high degree of computer literacy is required, with effective skills in MS products desired.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues.
