About the role
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. is a leading defense technology company specializing in unmanned systems, satellite communications, cyber security/warfare, microwave electronics, missile defense, training, and combat systems. The Kratos Unmanned Aerial Systems (KUAS) division develops, delivers, integrates, and supports high‑performance, cost‑effective, jet‑powered unmanned aerial systems (targets and tactical). As a Mechanical/Structures Engineer, you will work on design and development projects, solve difficult engineering problems, design components from composite and metallic materials, develop fluid systems, integrate hardware, prepare engineering documentation, use CAD (preferably Dassault Catia/3DX), apply GD&T, support testing and flight testing, and may act as lead engineer or test director, mentor junior staff, and support business development.
Responsibilities
- Design components manufactured from composite and metallic materials.
- Develop mechanical fluid systems to route liquids and gasses.
- Integrate hardware into complex, tightly packaged mechanical assemblies.
- Prepare formal, controlled engineering documentation (drawings, specifications, parts lists, interface control documents).
- Proficient in Computer Aid Drafting (CAD) to design, develop and document models and drawings to manufacture aerospace hardware; Dassault Products Preferred (Catia, 3DX).
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), perform tolerance studies and determine drawing requirements that provide affordable and practical designs.
- Prepare and present design review material in support of technical interchange meetings with suppliers and external/internal customers.
- Ensure that assigned scope meets project objectives per schedule and cost targets.
