About the role

The Mechanical Senior Engineer I performs expert level design and analysis work to support various projects, participating from inception through construction completion. This role serves as a discipline lead for projects, managing internal and external resources as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Applies broad knowledge of industrial piping design principles and practices
  • Creates or modifies equipment specifications, communicates with equipment suppliers, and technically evaluates critical pieces and packages of industrial equipment
  • Independently evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures and criteria
  • Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and functions on multidisciplinary teams
  • Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects
  • Designs a complete project or system and prepares complete project documents
  • Coordinates tasks with engineers, designers and administrative staff
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work
  • Prepares and manages scope, budget and schedule for projects or assignments, including ensuring discipline internal or external resources are within scope, budget and schedule
  • Assists with developing proposals and hours estimates to provide professional services or engineering support
  • Checks entire job for constructability, interferences, operational safety, and overall quality assurance
  • Communicates a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done
  • Receives general direction on key objectives; receives guidance when necessary on unconventional or complex problems, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in a professional manner, including PM, client, customers, officials, contractors and others
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • 6+ years related engineering experience with industrial equipment and industrial piping systems
  • Strong skill set in understanding PFDs and P&IDs; understanding of industrial equipment and equipment packages; knowledge of selection of valves and other piping specialty components is required
  • Knowledge of PHMSA standards, recommended practices and design experience in NFPA 59A, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and ASME Section VIII is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of basic process design and stress analyses including mechanical designs of supports, guides, anchors, hangers strongly preferred
  • Ability to understand client specifications, procurement, commissioning and start-up standards, documentation, practices, vendor data approvals, etc., strongly preferred
  • Experience using standard computer programs for design such as CAESAR II, AutoPipe, AutoCAD, etc., is preferred
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in a professional manner
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines
  • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills; ability to prepare and make project related presentations to clients is desirable
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
