Responsible for performing expert-level design and analysis work to support various projects as part of a project team from inception through construction completion. Acts as a discipline lead, managing internal and external resources.

Responsibilities

  • Applies broad knowledge of industrial piping design principles and practices.
  • Creates or modifies equipment specifications; communicates with equipment suppliers and technically evaluates critical pieces and packages of industrial equipment.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
  • Designs complete projects or systems and prepares complete project documents.
  • Coordinates tasks with engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work.
  • Prepares and manages scope, budget, and schedule for projects or assignments; ensures assigned resources stay within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Assists with developing proposals and hours estimates for professional services or engineering support.
  • Checks entire job for constructability, interferences, operational safety, and overall quality assurance.
  • Communicates a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts professionally with individuals at all organizational levels, including PMs, clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • 6+ years of related engineering experience with industrial equipment and industrial piping systems.
  • Strong skill set in understanding PFDs and P&IDs; knowledge of industrial equipment, equipment packages, and selection of valves and other piping specialty components.
  • Knowledge of PHMSA standards, recommended practices, and design experience in NFPA 59A, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and ASME Section VIII strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic process design and stress analyses, including mechanical designs of supports, guides, anchors, and hangers strongly preferred.
  • Ability to understand client specifications, procurement, commissioning and start-up standards, documentation, practices, and vendor data approvals strongly preferred.
  • Experience using design software such as CAESAR II, AutoPipe, AutoCAD, etc., is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written skills; ability to prepare and deliver project-related presentations to clients is desirable.
  • Proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.
