About the role

Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) is one of Lockheed Martin’s best-in-class Lines of Businesses that prioritizes partnership, integrity, and reliability. Controls Engineering is an organization within FBM that facilitates control of the missile through servo actuators, gas hydraulic systems, and small rocket motors. This position is for an Engineer in the Boost Control System (BCS) Integrated Product Team (IPT) that collaborates well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills.

In this role, you will have numerous opportunities to represent the BCS IPT with our Navy partner, LM leadership, and suppliers, with many opportunities for career development. The BCS IPT is responsible for the development, manufacture, and management of the control systems used during the boost phase of the missile's flight. As a Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) delegate for the Gas Generator (GG), you will manage hardware components, develop technical solutions, and potentially serve as the technical lead of a component throughout different phases of the product life-cycle (qualification, production, service support, aging, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Manage hardware components for the Gas Generator (GG).
  • Develop technical solutions for control systems used during the boost phase of missile flight.
  • Serve as the technical lead for a component across various product life-cycle phases (qualification, production, service support, aging, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the BCS IPT, Navy partners, LM leadership, and suppliers.
  • Represent the BCS IPT in technical and programmatic discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Experience with complex mechanical design model/drawing interpretation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Any combination of exposure to: engineering project management, propulsion, rocketry, aerodynamics, mechanisms, or fluids.
  • Understanding of the Engineering Lifecycle.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment.

Desired Skills

  • Missile/rocket and/or aerospace-related education or experience.
  • Experience with CAD and hardware modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, Matlab).
  • Experience in gas/fluid dynamics or energetics/propellants.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative.

For Washington state applicants only: Non-represented full-time employees accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) for incidental absences and other reasons, and receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full-time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month, up to 52 hours of sick leave annually, and receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $147,300.00. The salary range is a general guideline and considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, market (work location), and business considerations when extending an offer.
