Compensation: $95,000–$110,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus a 10% annual bonus. Employment type: full-time, exempt. Work environment: on-site manufacturing facility.

About the role

The Mechanical Project Engineer II will provide mechanical engineering design and project management support for an electrode manufacturing facility. This position manages capital projects from initial requirements and design through installation and completion, and supports equipment modifications, reliability improvements, equipment rebuilds, and selected maintenance initiatives within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering projects through the complete lifecycle, from project request and planning through installation and project closure.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in developing practical engineering solutions for plant and production needs.
  • Design mechanical solutions and prepare technical drawings based on the project scope and end-user requirements.
  • Develop scopes of work and technical specifications for equipment purchases, capital projects, and contract labor.
  • Prepare capital appropriation requests for new equipment, major repairs, and facility improvements.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, Gantt charts, budgets, cost forecasts, and risk management plans.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors, including bid inquiries, proposal evaluations, contract specifications, and project execution.
  • Ensure contractors follow all quality, safety, and housekeeping expectations while working on-site.
  • Develop bills of materials and recommend critical spare parts for newly installed equipment.
  • Provide training to operators and maintenance teams on new equipment and modifications to existing systems.
  • Recommend preventive maintenance activities for newly installed equipment.
  • Support equipment reliability initiatives by identifying recurring failures and implementing mechanical design improvements.
  • Assist Operations and Maintenance teams with troubleshooting and resolving equipment-related issues.
  • Maintain and update equipment drawings following modifications, repairs, or design corrections.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, plant safety standards, environmental regulations, and hazardous-waste requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • At least five years of mechanical engineering design, capital project management, or industrial project engineering experience.
  • Experience managing projects from concept and design through equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Office, and SAP.
  • Familiarity with PMBOK or a comparable project management methodology.
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage contractors, vendors, budgets, schedules, and multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with material-handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with thermal-oil systems.
  • Experience supporting equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in an active manufacturing environment around moving equipment, fumes, and moderate-to-high noise levels.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to periodically work overtime when required to complete critical projects.
  • Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to safely and accurately operate standard office and engineering equipment.
  • Ability to meet applicable plant vision and hearing requirements, with corrective lenses or hearing aids permitted where appropriate.
