Principal Responsibilities
- Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems on assigned projects
- Prepare detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with applicable codes and IMEG standards
- Partner with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationships
- Support consulting project execution by leading planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to meet deadlines and objectives
- Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring progress against percent complete and fee expended
- Analyze engineering challenges and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
- Conduct in-process reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications while applying IMEG quality control processes
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and mechanical engineering best practices, and contribute to innovation efforts within IMEG
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and help identify and mitigate risks associated with mechanical systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions
- Identify potential project issues and escalate to the Project Manager as needed
- Support projects through bidding and construction administration phases
Required Qualifications And Skills
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
- Due to federal contract requirements, this position requires U.S. citizenship
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
- Strong training and mentoring skills
- Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
- Proficiency in the use of BIM software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
