What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and execution of automation systems that integrate Makino machining centers with robotics and material handling solutions.
- Design automation equipment such as end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, safety systems, and system layouts.
- Develop complete design packages (3D models, drawings, BOMs, documentation).
- Perform mechanical analysis (tolerance stack-ups, stress, deflection, etc.).
- Conduct robot reach studies and support system layout development.
- Partner with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and customers from concept through final system acceptance.
- Support fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting of automated systems.
- Lead design reviews and contribute to project cost estimates and proposals.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Stay current on emerging automation technologies and recommend design improvements.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical experience.
- 7+ years of mechanical design experience, including automation systems.
- Strong experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Background in designing machinery, automation systems, or robotic integration.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems, mechanical components, and system design.
- Familiarity with industry standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO, CE, RIA).
- Experience troubleshooting and solving complex engineering problems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
