About the role

The role of Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor includes managing the Mechanical personnel in the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Department, ensuring all equipment is maintained according to OEM standards, working with Engineering and Operations Departments to schedule and plan PM activities, changeovers, and outages, and overseeing maintenance, reliability, and operational support of plant utility systems.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Supervises mechanical maintenance personnel over the assigned section of the plant maintenance (Slitter & Mill or Finishing Depts).
  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Communicates regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Communicates directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work.
  • Ensures the continuous improvement methods and 5S are always in effect on the responsibility area.
  • Supports HSE-related programs that will increase awareness and promote a safety culture.
  • Oversees maintenance, reliability, and operational support of plant utility systems including cooling towers, compressed air systems, industrial pumps, water treatment systems, wastewater management equipment, and associated distribution infrastructure.
  • Captains activities with Plant Operations Departments.
  • Maintains, directs, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
  • Makes sure all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures.
  • Assists with hiring of maintenance personnel.
  • Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • Inputs work orders through the CMMS of the Maintenance Department.
  • Prepares reports on equipment performance and efficiency.
  • Monitors performance and maintenance requirements of plant utility systems including cooling towers, compressed air systems, water treatment and wastewater systems to ensure reliable operation and compliance with environmental and operational standards.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in supervisory roles in a manufacturing facility.
  • Good reporting skills and the ability to document detailed activities of the department both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective communication and speaking abilities, especially in a meeting-type environment.
  • Strong project planning skills.
  • Able and available to work extended hours when situations arise such as emergency breakdowns and scheduled outages.
  • Ability to work effectively with various vendors and outside contractors for project planning and parts pricing negotiations.
  • Ability to read and make documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure/equipment manuals, and electrical/mechanical schematic drawings.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to communicate effectively with coworkers.
  • Spanish as a second language is beneficial but not required.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial utility systems including cooling towers, industrial air compressors, process and wastewater treatment systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and related piping systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and operational support of facility utility systems is considered a significant advantage.
