PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for overseeing shop and service track operations, directing heavy repair activities, and coordinating effective responses to main line outages. This role provides frontline leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and timely mechanical repairs of locomotives and rail cars, while maintaining operational continuity and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work schedules while supervising employees performing locomotive and rail car maintenance
- Establish clear performance expectations and ensure accountability for employees across the shop, yard, and service island
- Train, coach, and mentor craftspeople on all aspects of locomotive and car repairs, while assessing workmanship quality and adherence to standards
- Lead regular safety briefings, promote a strong safety culture, and ensure compliance with all safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Cookordinate and oversee multiple work groups and projects concurrently to meet operational, safety, and service requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- A high school diploma or general equivalency
- A valid driver’s license
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in both car and locomotive maintenance
- Must be familiar with Federal Railroad Association (FRA) and Association of American Railroads (AAR) Rules and Regulations and be able to prepare and accurately fill out all forms required for the operation
- Strong leadership and communication skills is an asset
- Strong understanding of SAP, Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office programs

- This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required.
