About the role
The Mechanical Fitter will undertake the mechanical construction, maintenance, fitting and removal of substation plant and equipment. This work will be carried out in full compliance with construction drawings, documents, and specifications, adhering to published guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures to ensure satisfactory completion.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop competence level and technical skills to ensure high standards of delivery.
- Attend training as required to maintain knowledge and application of systems and procedures.
- Deliver scheduled and unscheduled work on time and to standard in accordance with RAMS and instructions.
- Maintain, update, and report variations on drawings, test sheets, and progress markings as work develops.
- Comply with all Omexom H&SE standards, Quality Standards, Operational Procedures, and Policies.
- Actively contribute to your team by sharing knowledge and experience, monitoring progress, and providing support.
- Promptly make safe where possible, record all accidents, hazards, and near misses.
- Lead by example in safety behavior and management; encourage safe working, hazard reporting, and innovations.
- Report any concerns regarding Quality, Safety, Health, or the Environment to the Construction Manager or nominated representative.
- Use machinery, equipment, substances, transport, and plant appropriately in line with RAMS, manufacturer’s instructions, company guidance, and training.
- Communicate with Supervisors to ensure materials and supplies are procured or provided to avoid delays and maintain efficient working.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working on UK National Grid and DNO substation / OHL sites operating from 11 – 400kV (preferable).
- Qualifications managed by the OPS Training database.
- Basic reading, writing, and maths skills.
- NG accreditation as a Person / Competent Person.
- Good understanding of reading and interpreting drawings and documents.
- Maintain training, experience, and qualifications for the role as outlined by Omexom.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to take instructions and undertake tasks safely.
- Basic understanding of major substation plant and equipment.
- Understand and interpret RAMS, Drawings, ITP’s, and safety documents.
- Ability to plan, check, and procure/request materials to maintain efficient working progress.
- Proactively drive development through the appraisal system (Check-In).
- Basic computer/tablet literacy.
