About the role

The Estimator evaluates project specifications and drawings to produce complete and accurate cost estimates. Under the supervision of the Chief Estimator, this position collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specifications, and drawings to determine project costs.
• Analyze time, material, and manpower requirements for each project.
• Perform material takeoffs and develop written cost estimates based on specifications.
• Provide the Estimating Manager with a detailed cost estimate, proposal letter, and bid form breakout; take ownership of the project.
• Interface with customers, vendors, and subcontractors to determine project costs.
• Gather information to assess subcontractor and vendor suitability and secure competitive pricing.
• Visit customer field locations to evaluate project conditions.
• Attend pre- and post-bid meetings and present information to clients to promote projects.
• Select and solicit proposals from a pool of potential subcontractors and equipment vendors.
• Analyze special safety and code requirements for all projects.
• Work as part of an integrated team to acquire projects.
• Turn over bid documents to Project Management in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor.

Requirements

• HVAC or Mechanical technical school/degree, Mechanical Engineering degree, or a minimum of 2 years of estimating experience.
• Prior experience in a Mechanical Construction environment or Mechanical Estimating preferred.
• Sheet metal and piping experience preferred.
• Self-motivated with strong communication and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Estimation, or Quickpen).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to walk at least a mile, climb stairs, and climb ladders up to 30 feet high.
