Mechanical Estimator

About the role

This position is responsible for working with the Estimating Group to provide complete proposal packages for client turnover. The individual filling this role will estimate projects up to $25M, depending on complexity and self-performance work.

Responsibilities

• Estimate projects up to $25M, considering complexity and self-performance work.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and read/understand all bid documents, including drawings, scope of work, contract documents, and project specifications.
• Draft pre-estimate checklist and opportunity matrix based on bid documents and pre-bid meetings.
• Establish ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) pricing for opportunity evaluation.
• Set up and lead bid review meetings.
• Review Request for Information (RFIs) throughout the bid process.
• Perform quantity take-offs, review junior estimator take-offs, and enter quantities into estimating software.
• Assign labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to task quantities.
• Support junior estimators in obtaining subcontractor and vendor pricing (expectation of 3 estimates per trade or material).
• Understand project requirements and assign indirect costs.
• Break projects down to a granular level for work breakdown structure transferable to project reporting/coding.
• Generate cash flow tables, project risk analysis reports, and contingency evaluations.
• Generate all submittals required in the RFQ (Request for Quotation).
• Compile exceptions and clarifications.
• Generate project schedules and resource loading reports.
• Lead project turnover meetings and collaborate with operations during the pre-construction phase.
• Apply pragmatic analysis of project execution to ensure estimates reflect efficient project delivery.
• Other duties as assigned to support business operations.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial construction estimating.
• Estimating experience with Accubid.
• Scheduling experience with MSP (Microsoft Project) or P6.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Project Schedule and Excel.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Indoor office setting with controlled temperature.
• Outdoor industrial sites with exposure to weather extremes.
• Potential exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, or other environmental factors.
• Travel requirements: up to 10% of time.
