About the Role

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will directly supervise, support, and provide direction and leadership to Mechanical Engineers and third-party Engineering teams. This role focuses on Integrated Modular Solutions for IT, Telecom, and Industrial market segments, including detailed system designs for Data Centers, Central Office, Switching Centers, and Video Hub Offices. The manager will oversee all engineering disciplines and ensure financial performance of their team while supporting client management and business development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the post-sales Mechanical Engineering team, managing technical project execution from initial design through production and delivery.
  • Guide the Mechanical Engineering team to create designs that meet or exceed Vertiv’s quality requirements while staying within budget.
  • Coordinate all engineering disciplines, including Structural, Architectural, Thermal, Electrical, Mechanical, Fire Detection and Suppression, and BMS/Controls, with a team of Vertiv and third-party engineers.
  • Collaborate with other Vertiv business units and preferred third-party equipment suppliers to select equipment that meets customer and project requirements.
  • Interact with customers and their engineering teams to align Vertiv’s designs with customer expectations.
  • Support customers’ permitting efforts by engaging with their permitting agents.
  • Coordinate with the customer’s General Contractor (GC) for all site work.
  • Manage and coordinate contracted engineering companies for civil engineering, HVAC, structural designs, calculations, and factory shop drawing development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes by working with local agencies.
  • Familiarity with standards such as National Building Code (NBC), International Building Code (IBC), AISC, ASTM, AWS, and National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Support onsite project operations, including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operating procedure review.
  • Travel to sites for reviews, work with field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, mechanical systems audits, and startup support as needed.
  • Offer creative solutions to customer challenges.
  • Create and improve engineering plans, processes, and procedures.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and set objectives for team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (optional if equivalent experience is demonstrated).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License (optional).
  • 6+ years of engineering and management experience.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Experience reading, understanding, and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Building Code, International Building Code, and NFPA70.
  • Fundamental understanding of critical data center equipment.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Travel

15–20% domestic travel required.
