About the role
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will assist the Mechanical Design Team at our Miamisburg, Ohio site in the conceptual and detail design of Electronic Safe and Arm Devices (ESADs) and Ignition Safety Devices (ISDs) for missile programs.
Responsibilities
- Assist members of the technical staff to generate designs and support development activities for Electronic Safe and Arm Devices (ESADs or ESAFs), Ignition Safety Devices (ISDs), and other weapon system components.
- Participate in performance testing and manufacturability assessment of products.
- Perform detail design, tolerance studies, and selection of components while accounting for shock, vibration, and thermal stress considerations.
- Prepare engineering drawings.
- Write engineering reports and assist in the preparation of technical proposals.
- Participate in specification reviews, design reviews, pre-production builds, debug, and product testing.
- Plan and determine test procedures.
- Conduct laboratory experiments and investigations, as well as correlate and interpret observations and results.
Requirements
- Working towards a degree in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to Department of Energy requirements.
Qualifications
- Prefer experience in the design of small mechanical assemblies.
- Knowledge of mechanical design software SolidWorks is preferred.
- Experience with machining processes is desirable.
- Must be proficient in MS Office.
- Previous experience with military high-reliability programs and working with Military Standards is desirable.
- Ingenuity and attention to detail skills are essential.
