About the role

This position is a learning opportunity for an individual pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The Co-op will gain hands-on work experience by providing technical support to engineering and assisting in the building and testing of prototype products. The position starts in January 2027 and finishes in late summer 2027, with some flexibility regarding start and end dates.

Responsibilities

  • Write and execute equipment testing documents for new mechanical systems.
  • Create and fabricate test fixtures.
  • Create engineering drawings under the supervision of a hardware engineer.
  • Build prototypes and create bills of materials.
  • Work with production on assembly instructions.
  • Demonstrate inclusion through words and actions, ensuring a safe workspace.
  • Act with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others, incorporating Promega’s 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.
  • Understand and comply with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of instruction toward a BS in Engineering.
  • Eagerness to contribute and learn.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
  • Some CAD training (AutoCAD preferred).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work experience.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to observe and inspect equipment and operations for proper function and compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to work in a production environment around automated equipment.
  • Ability to work in an office environment utilizing a computer workstation.
  • Ability to work in a lab environment with chemical, biological, and packaging materials.
  • Ability to remain stationary for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to position oneself in low positions.
  • Ability to move objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to transport items between buildings.
