About the role
This individual will work in a multi-discipline, team environment in our Fairfax, VA office as a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The role involves assisting in the design and production of mechanical construction documents for commercial and institutional projects, as well as the design of building systems (HVAC and plumbing) and life safety plans for office buildings, residential, health care, educational, federal, commercial, and institutional projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and production of mechanical construction documents
- Design building systems (HVAC and plumbing) and life safety plans
- Support system layouts, load calculations, equipment sizing and selection
- Contribute to energy modeling and building information modeling (BIM)
- Perform other tasks related to mechanical engineering design
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and 3D, Revit MEP, Trane Trace, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel is a plus
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Program Information
Summer Intern Program
During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects. Interns are assigned meaningful work similar to that of full-time employees and participate in a series of workshops and events, including:
- Networking opportunities with other interns, staff, and senior leaders
- Learning about Dewberry’s services, projects, and clients
- Professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment
- A summer-long group project working alongside firm leaders to address future strategy
Pay
Salary range: $18.75/hour – $29.75/hour, depending on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
