About the Role

Dewberry is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Intern to work with a project team and assist in the design of building mechanical systems (plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC) projects for our Peoria, IL office for Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical engineering calculations, reports, construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and budgets for building mechanical and utility distribution systems under the supervision of a registered Professional Engineer.
  • Work in diverse teams and interact successfully with project team members, clients, and contractors.
  • Apply strong technical background, excellence in design, attention to detail, and quality control in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate written and oral communication and organizational skills throughout the design and construction process.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or similar equivalent.
  • 0–2 years of experience.
  • Previous internship with a consulting engineering firm is a plus.
  • Certification as an Engineering Intern (NCEES) and experience with Revit, AutoCAD, MS Word, and MS Excel is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Pay

Salary Range: $18.75/hour – $29.75/hour. Depending on skills, experience, location, and market conditions, the range may vary slightly.

Program Information

Summer Intern Program

During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and put classroom knowledge into action. Interns are assigned meaningful work and given the opportunity to work on projects similar to those of full-time employees.

  • Participate in networking opportunities to meet other interns, staff, and senior leaders across the business.
  • Learn about our services, projects, and clients.
  • Engage in professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment to learn more about yourself and how to work effectively with others.
  • Contribute to a summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues impacting our future strategy.
