Mechanical Engineering Intern

About the role

Mechanical Engineering Intern at Cushing Terrell. This is an in-person internship supporting our Mechanical Engineering team on real client projects. Day‑to‑day you will gain hands‑on experience performing engineering calculations and designing mechanical systems, including building heating and cooling load calculations. You will help model mechanical and plumbing systems in Revit and AutoCAD, schedule mechanical equipment, and compile project specifications. Success looks like reviewing building codes and standards (IMC, UPC, ASHRAE), participating in site visits before and during construction, and leaving with a clear picture of what it means to work in the AEC industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist with engineering calculations and mechanical system design, including heating and cooling load calculations
• Support the modeling of mechanical and plumbing systems in Revit and AutoCAD
• Help schedule mechanical equipment and compile project specifications
• Review building codes and standards, including IMC, UPC, and ASHRAE
• Collaborate with teams across offices and project locations
• Attend site visits before and during construction with project leads
• Gain exposure to the variety of project types and teams across the firm

Qualifications

Required:

• Completion of 3+ years of a mechanical engineering or related undergraduate program
• Basic knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD
• Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Bluebeam
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt
• Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with team members across disciplines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

• Exposure to heating and cooling load calculations
• Interest in mechanical or plumbing system design
• Familiarity with IMC, UPC, ASHRAE, or local building codes

Pay

The expected wage range for this position is $21.00 to $26.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job‑related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
