About the Role
This position involves experimental support, test execution, instrumentation, documentation, and collaboration to develop and execute materials testing solutions. You will work with national and local laboratories, operate and maintain gas gun impact test equipment, and interface with customers, team members, and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the development of test plans for materials testing.
- Prepare test articles, perform pre- and post-test metrology and imagery, and compile experiment build documentation.
- Interface with national and local laboratories to perform experimental duties, including travel to test facilities to ensure proper test execution and data acquisition.
- Assist in the safe transport of instrumentation and experimental hardware to and from the home facility.
- Operate data acquisition systems, install and calibrate optical and electrical sensors.
- Develop and document laboratory procedures and experiment assembly instructions.
- Collaborate with customers, team members, and outside vendors to develop test solutions.
- Operate and maintain gas gun impact test equipment and associated hardware, including calibration of equipment and instrumentation.
Qualifications
- BS with 2-4 years of experience, MS with 0-2 years of experience, or HS with 8-10 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
- Proficient with measurement tools such as micrometers, height gauges, and calipers.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to travel to support testing.
- Experience operating oscilloscopes and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with the design and fabrication of mechanical fixtures and components.
- Experience with data analysis and writing test plans and reports.
- Experience with microscopy systems and techniques.
- Experience with optical, structural, and thermal instrumentation.
- Scripting experience with Python.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Software: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage detailed tasks within customer-driven timelines.
- Ability to work independently or on a team.
- Self-starter with a hands-on, hardware-oriented approach.
- Machining experience.
- Experience with fiber optic systems and instrumentation.

Pay
Projected compensation range for this position is $67,187.47 to $117,483.74. Final salary may vary based on relevant work experience, skills, geographic location, education, certifications, and other factors.
