About the role
The Mechanical Engineer - Test and Evaluation position supports manufacturing projects by combining hands-on technical work and maintenance of equipment and supplies. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with engineering drawings and quality assurance techniques, organizational skills, and in-depth experience with precision machining operations.
Responsibilities
- Supports manufacturing projects by combining hands-on technical work and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Performs in all phases of hardware design, development, integration/implementation, and analysis.
- Plans and conducts engineering feasibility studies for design improvements, modifications, and implementation of advanced technologies.
- Develops standards and guidelines for tasks being performed.
- Interfaces with government personnel.
- Solves complex engineering problems through highly technical expertise and guidance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience.
- Strong self-starter with the ability to lead technical efforts and work independently with minimal oversight.
- Experience with DOD acquisition process, environmental testing, and systems integration testing.
- Ability to define test objectives, develop test plans and procedures, analyze and interpret test data, and support failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Strong technical writing skills, with experience authoring test plans, procedures, and detailed technical reports.
- Experience supporting test events at government ranges or contractor facilities.
- Hands-on experience with developmental and qualification testing, including shock, vibration, thermal, and other MIL-STD test environments.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to independently drive tasks and lead support staff or cross-functional teams to successful completion.
Qualifications
- Physical Demand: Frequent walking, standing, and moving between workstations in the machine shop environment.
- Ability to lift and move materials or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Regular exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations typical of a machine shop.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching to access materials or equipment.
Skills

- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks).

Office Location
The position is 100% on site in Indian Head, MD. The office is open up to 5 days per week as required with option for situational telework.
Security Clearance
Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
