About the role
Dominion Engineering, Inc. (Dominion), an Allied Power company, seeks an engineer with 0 to 10 years of experience and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering (or theoretical and applied mechanics, or engineering physics with mechanical focus, or nuclear engineering), including those graduating by August 2026. The candidate will be responsible for performing engineering and technical tasks applying a range of engineering analyses, under general supervision, primarily in support of consulting projects within the nuclear power industry.
Responsibilities
- Performs mechanical engineering calculations
- Prepares technical reports
- Develops high quality communication exhibits (graphs, charts, presentations)
- Supports proposal development
- Supports engineering evaluations and research for aging management of nuclear power plant components and materials
- Supports engineering consulting support
- May provide support to other emergent Dominion projects
- Supports modeling and simulation activities
- Supports the development and deployment of Dominion products within the industry
- Supports thermal and mechanical analyses
- Supports probabilistic modeling
- Supports numerical analysis of physical systems and phenomena
- Supports the performance and verification of mechanical and thermal analyses
- Documents analyses in calculations and reports
- Works with other Dominion subject matter experts and engineers to produce related assessment and guidance documents for industry clients

Competencies
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience using engineering analysis software such as ANSYS Mechanical or LS-DYNA or similar
- Thorough technical knowledge of finite element modeling practices
- Analysis approaches including: Elastic Stress Analysis, Plastic Stress Analysis, Heat Transfer, Fatigue
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Detail-oriented and self-directed
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Competence in core mechanical engineering fundamentals: Mechanics of materials, Stress analysis, Fracture mechanics, Finite element analysis, Material science, Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, Fluid dynamics
- Ability to develop expertise in one or more of the following: Computational fluid dynamics, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Probabilistic fracture mechanics
- Willing to travel up to 10-15% of the time (e.g., for Customer / industry meetings and occasional field support of products)
Required Education, Experience, Certification and Licenses
- BS or MS Mechanical Engineering, Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Engineering Physics (with mechanical focus), or Nuclear Engineering
