About the role

HireArt is assisting an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company in recruiting a Mechanical Engineer - Serviceability (Contract role) to advance Design for Serviceability (DFS) initiatives. This role involves evaluating product designs for serviceability, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to enhance repairability, and developing inspection and maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and boost fleet performance.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive DFS initiatives throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate component and assembly designs for serviceability, focusing on accessibility, tooling clearance, ergonomics, and ease of replacement.
  • Identify specialized tooling requirements and collaborate with tooling teams on tool design and development.
  • Develop cost and repair-time analyses to reduce repair complexity and improve service efficiency.
  • Work with technical writing teams to develop and maintain service procedures and repair documentation.
  • Develop service part release strategies and manage the Service Bill of Materials (BOM) to support spare parts planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish, implement, and maintain inspection and preventive maintenance programs for operational and test fleet vehicles.
  • Evaluate maintenance effectiveness, propose process improvements, and lead initiatives aimed at increasing fleet uptime and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with technicians and program managers to implement maintenance plans and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • 4+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in service engineering, automotive, or product development
  • Strong 3D CAD experience, particularly CATIA
  • Experience designing products for manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability across various fabrication processes
  • Solid understanding of complex mechanical and electrical systems
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety requirements
  • Excellent documentation, organizational, and project management skills
