About the role
The Mechanical Engineer at Jedson Engineering will support various pulp and paper projects, delivering mechanical engineering expertise to clients. This role involves conducting on-site evaluations, designing and integrating mechanical subsystems, and providing actionable recommendations to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
Responsibilities
- Deliver mechanical engineering expertise to pulp and paper clients, supporting projects from system assessments to full-scale capital upgrades.
- Conduct on-site evaluations of mill equipment, including pulping systems, screening, refining, and paper-machine components, to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Design, evaluate, and integrate mechanical subsystems across the papermaking process, such as pulping, screening, refining, cleaning, stock preparation, forming, pressing, drying, and finishing operations.
- Develop engineering designs, specifications, and technical documentation for equipment modifications, replacements, and new installations.
- Provide actionable recommendations to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
- Support project execution by coordinating with vendors, contractors, and client teams throughout design, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning.
- Analyze process and equipment data to optimize system performance, energy efficiency, and throughput.
- Prepare clear, client-ready reports, drawings, and presentations that communicate findings, recommendations, and project progress.
- Ensure all engineering work aligns with industry standards, safety requirements, and client expectations.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, helping them plan long-term asset strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry, particularly with paper-machine systems, pulping operations, or mill mechanical equipment.
- A strong understanding of rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam systems, and industrial utilities.
- Proficiency with engineering analysis tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEA tools, reliability analysis software).
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a mill or industrial environment.
- The ability to manage projects, including coordinating timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
