Mechanical Engineer - Pipe Stress | Mid - Senior Level

About the role

This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

Responsibilities

• Define piping system layouts (routing, support locations, etc.).
• Perform stress analysis on piping and tubing systems.
• Define and specify pipe support components (anchors, guides, spring hangers, etc.).
• Design and analyze structural supports.
• Lead and own the design of high-pressure gas and cryogenic fluid systems.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analysis activities for fluid systems (HAZOP).
• Manage suppliers, coordinating cost, schedule, and technical design requirements.
• Provide remote and on-site support during the fabrication, installation, and start-up of new facilities or upgrades.
• Cook with suppliers to refine project scope and requirements.
• Mentor newer engineers and perform peer reviews as appropriate based on experience level.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years (Level III), 2+ years (Level II) of industry experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in piping system design and analysis.
• Competency with Bentley AutoPipe and/or CAESAR.
• Competence in pipe support selection, design, and analysis.
• Practical knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods for piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.).
• Knowledgeable of fluid system components (e.g., valves, regulators, and pumps for cryogenics, propellants, and other fluids).
• Practical knowledge of ASME B31.3 and ASME BPVC codes.

Schedule

Occasional travel to other sites (up to 25%) may be required to support operations.
