Mechanical Engineer (Onsite)
This role is onsite based in Cisco's San Jose office.
About the Team
We represent one of the technical arms of Data Center Network Product, Component and Quality Operations. Our team works collaboratively with cross-functional groups across Cisco, including Product Management, Hardware Engineering, Global Manufacturing Operations, Compliance and Service. We also work closely with CM / EMS and suppliers. We are responsible for products cost, delivery and quality throughout their entire life cycle from NPI (New Product Introduction) to EOS (End of Sales).
Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical product engineering support for new and sustaining products, focusing on cost, quality, and time to market from NPI to EOL.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering (mechanical and hardware), process, test, and reliability engineering to solve problems and ensure cost avoidance and quality at FCS for new products.
- For sustaining products, focus on cost reduction and design-related yield improvements.
- Lead small-scale mechanical engineering projects (one to two features) with manageable risks and resource requirements, including project management responsibilities.
- Support assembly, fabrication, and manufacturing of products using knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastic, diecast, sheet metal, interconnect, and power delivery.
- Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and perform stack-up tolerance analyses to ensure designs meet six sigma quality for high-volume mass production.
- Assist senior engineers with test plans, mechanical design testing, failure analysis, reliability, environmental testing, and verification plans.
- Engage in value engineering by collaborating with Component Engineering, GSM, and Hardware Engineering to influence component selection, process efficiency, and design changes.
- Verify design quality, resolve issues, and compile BoM for large teams or across multiple products.
- Contribute to design improvements and assembly cost savings by identifying the right materials.
- Monitor scope, schedule, and budgets for projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to conduct design feasibility testing and prototyping, ensuring customer feature requests are achievable.
- Ensure feasibility and prototyping guidelines are met and optimize thermal solutions with thermal engineers prior to prototype.
- Assess CM and supply chain technical capability and capacity gaps.
- Create, analyze, and release product documentation.
- Manage technical lifecycle, including defect reduction and new component qualification.
- Experience with liquid cooling (L6) and cold plate manufacturing processes is preferred.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical manufacturing.
- Experience with L6 liquid cooling.
- BS degree in mechanical engineering.
- Experience using Pro-E/Creo.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
