About The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team, responsible for the mechanical design of medium voltage switchgear enclosures, structures, and assemblies from concept through production release. This role exercises independent engineering judgment to develop designs that meet customer specifications, industry standards, and manufacturability requirements, working closely with electrical engineering, project management, and production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design of components and assemblies from concept through production release, exercising independent judgment on design approach, materials selection, and manufacturability.
  • Perform engineering analysis and calculations, including structural, thermal/ventilation, and tolerance stack-ups, to validate designs against customer specifications and applicable standards.
  • Interpret customer submittals, specifications, and industry standards (UL, NEMA, ANSI/IEEE) and determine how requirements apply to each project's design.
  • Develop and release 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs in SolidWorks, and establish design standards and best practices for the mechanical design group.
  • Evaluate design issues and non-conformances raised by production; determine root cause, disposition, and approve resulting design changes.
  • Evaluate, select, and qualify purchased and outsourced components, including review and approval of supplier CAD data for integration into designs.
  • Review and approve the work of mechanical designers, providing technical direction and mentorship.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, standardization, and design-for-manufacturing practices.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering field (required).
  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical design engineering experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, drawings, sheet metal, weldments).
  • Understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes (bending, punching, cutting, forming) and design for manufacturability.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawing standards, including GD&T, welding symbols, tolerances, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent engineering judgment on matters of design significance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE license or EIT with path to licensure
  • Thermal analysis / airflow calculations (fan sizing, derating) or FEA/structural analysis experience.
  • Enclosure design for electrical or switchgear equipment; familiarity with NEMA/UL enclosure type ratings (3R, 4, 12).

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods sitting, standing, walking, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Work Environment

  • May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings.
  • Maintaining the same position or posture while performing tasks and sitting for prolonged periods.
