Mechanical Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

About the role
Internships at Astranis typically last for twelve weeks and are hourly roles designed for students currently enrolled at a four-year university. As an intern, you will work on hard problems—everyone at Astranis contributes to meaningful work on complex projects, regardless of seniority. Many past interns have designed and tested hardware/software that is now in space, and several have transitioned to full-time roles at Astranis.
Responsibilities
- Work with the engineering team to design, build, and test satellite hardware and/or software.
- Design, evaluate, procure, assemble, and test structures, bracketry, and mechanisms for Astranis spacecraft, including composite and metallic parts using various manufacturing techniques.
- Perform mechanical and thermal analysis for spacecraft systems.
- Integrate parts and systems into the spacecraft in collaboration with the team, and document procedures to improve future build processes.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, or an equivalent technical degree (e.g., physics or applied math).
- A passion and enthusiasm for hardware development, including working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on design.
- Demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test hardware from scratch.

- Experience with CAD.

Pay
The base pay for this position is $29.00 per hour.
