About the Role

We are looking for a talented mechanical engineer to help propel a fast-moving and high-performing development team to the next level. This position involves collaborating with a team to develop hardware on production and R&D projects. This role will be based at our HQ in Waterloo, WI.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team to develop hardware on production and R&D projects.
  • Design plastic components with considerations of manufacturing process constraints, resin property differences, sealing, and fastening.
  • Select materials and manufacturing methods for designs using metal components.
  • Use CAD modeling software (preferably Onshape or SolidWorks) to create 3D models and 2D engineering drawings, including applying GD&T methodology.
  • Perform structural analysis, DFMEA, test plan creation, and root cause analysis.
  • Prototype and test components using both rapid prototyping and production-intent methods.
  • Manage documentation and revisions through the duration of the project using a PLM system.
  • Take on multiple projects with appropriate delegation and time management.
  • Proactively seek out innovative solutions along with research and development opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively within cross-functional teams at Trek.
  • Develop design best practices within the department.
  • Build strong working relationships and communication with an international team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience in product development.
  • Experience with designing consumer electronics products (e.g., enclosures, displays, connectors, buttons, and small mechanisms).
  • Experience in multiple project cycles from design through production.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance (e.g., UL, EN, RoHS) is a plus.

Skills

  • Strong passion for continuous improvement to product, processes, and yourself.
  • Experience with design analysis using FEA (preferred).
  • Optics design (preferred).
  • Capable with bike assembly (preferred).
  • System-level engineering experience, including integration of mechanical components with motors, batteries, sensors, controllers, and wiring harnesses (preferred).
  • Experience working with and communicating with suppliers in Asia (preferred).
