On-siteEngineeringFull-time

Design, develop, and optimize advanced robotic actuator systems—including rotary and linear motion solutions—for humanoid, industrial, and service robotics applications. Drive new product development by supporting design, sourcing, procurement, and validation of prototype components and manufacturing processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance, manufacturability, quality, and cost targets while transitioning from concept through prototype to production readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and manufacturing solutions for prototype and pre-production products, ensuring performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability objectives are met.
  • Create and release engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering change documentation, and procurement packages.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes, and tooling to improve manufacturability, product quality, cost efficiency, and product development cycle time.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Reliability (DFR), APQP, and product development activities to meet quality, cost, and project timing goals.
  • Coordinate prototype builds by planning component procurement, supporting assembly and engineering validation, managing design iterations, and partnering with cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and technical milestones.
  • Research and apply emerging actuator technologies, advanced materials, precision manufacturing methods, and robotics industry trends to drive product innovation, improve system performance, and support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical product development, prototype manufacturing, or advanced manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, injection molding, casting, heat treat, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
  • Experience procuring prototype components from domestic and international suppliers.

Skills

  • Application of GD&T based on product functional requirements.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
  • Design and Process Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA).
  • Application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and principles to product design requirements.
  • Experience with product design and manufacturing involving rotary bearings, recirculating ball screws, and belt- and gear-reduction mechanisms (preferred).
  • Strong project management, communication, and supplier management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize program deliverables from multiple sources and customers.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal and technical communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Operates in a mix of office environment, test lab, and test track.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to work in a test lab environment.
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and bending as needed to perform duties.
