Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for new product development projects in a lead role.
- Interface with the Product Group Leader, Project Manager, ECO Liaison, and other project team members to improve existing products.
- Provide direction to others regarding assigned project development activities.
- Develop design solutions that meet the specific project needs or directives outlined in Engineering Change Requests.
- Execute Engineering analysis using accepted engineering practices for mechanical systems. Analysis may include static and dynamic evaluation, development of free-body diagrams, force and torque load analysis, stress analysis, power and torque calculations, design validation methods, and other mechanical performance assessments.
- Conduct multi-body finite element analysis as required.
- Create and maintain bills of material and engineering drawing sets.
- Work with vendors to facilitate communication and support product development needs.
- Write test plans and quality documents.
- Develop and generate manufacturing-ready designs, working closely with factory personnel to ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of solid modeling, using SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS PDM. Working experience with configurations within SOLIDWORKS models is preferred.
- Highly skilled in Excel for executing engineering calculations with clear and user-friendly documentation. Experience creating Excel macros is a plus.
- Strong drafting ability, including working knowledge of various dimensional call outs, tolerances, and symbols.
- Experience performing stress analysis using hand calculations, computation methods (Excel, MATLAB, etc.), FEA software, or a combination of these approaches.
- Ability to read and interpret complex documents including blueprints, work instructions, material specifications, test specifications, industry standards, etc.
- Very high level of mechanical aptitude along with fundamental understanding of electrical concepts.
- An understanding of materials and their relative properties as it relates to engineering.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of peers and managers.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Hands-on ability to develop & build test fixtures and perform testing of design elements.
- Abiity to work onsite at the Jackson facility Monday - Friday.
- Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time working on a computer.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is required along with 6-12 years engineering experience in a heavy manufacturing environment or custom machine building environment.
