About the role
The Mechanical Engineer II serves as a key member of the global team at Gates Corporation's Siloam Springs, AR plant. This role involves partnering with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Quality teams to support equipment reliability, process improvements, and day-to-day plant operations. The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering support for maintenance and production activities while assisting with capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Support plant operations by partnering with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve technical challenges
- Aid in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, equipment uptime, and operational efficiency
- Maintain equipment documentation, engineering records, and spare parts information to support plant reliability
- Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to identify reliability improvements and implement corrective actions
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors to support equipment repairs, maintenance activities, and project execution
- Participate in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving activities utilizing tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D methodologies
- Provide engineering support for equipment modifications, upgrades, and overall plant improvement initiatives
- Assist in evaluating equipment performance and recommend practical solutions to improve reliability, efficiency, and productivity
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field required
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
- Basic project coordination and project support experience preferred
- Familiarity with problem-solving methodologies such as 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D
- Working knowledge of CAD software, including SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with a hands-on approach to supporting plant operations
