Responsibilities
- Work with a multi-disciplinary team through product development and manufacturing phases.
- Identify and solve challenging mechanical engineering problems by creating functional prototypes and new technologies for In-the-Home and On-the-Go Audio products.
- Evaluate design options through computer modeling as well as measurements and evaluation of physical prototypes.
- Draft mechanical specifications, verification and validation plans and execute verification testing.
- Complete detailed design in collaboration with manufacturing partners to meet program objectives.
- Support designs and documentation through manufacturing startup and continuing engineering.
- Communication with local/global Bose teams and vendor base Mechanical Engineering.
Requirements and Skills
- Strong problem-solving experience in mechanical design and development of high volume consumer products.
- Experience with a variety of materials including molded plastics, elastomers (particularly silicones), aluminum, and steel. Quantitatively understand these materials, their use, their feel, and their properties.
- Collaborate with Industrial Designers/Artists and User Experience (UX) to realize exceptional cosmetic and touch experiences in high volume production.
- Design parts, in a wide range of sizes, and products that can be produced in high volume with flawless cosmetic and functional performance.
- Develop solutions to complex problems requiring regular use of ingenuity, creativity and technical expertise.
- 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawings with NX. Familiarity with SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with PCB layout and fab and MCAD/ECAD data exchange.
- Interface and collaborate with Joint Development Manufacturers and Contract Manufacturers (domestically and in Asia) to achieve cost, schedule and design efficiencies and flexibility.
- Familiarity with product data management systems and change notices (CNs) preferably using Windchill.
- The ability to construct or modify hardware parts or models with some proficiency in the use of simple hand tools also valuable.
- Knowledge of high volume, consumer electronics product development is preferred but not a hard requirement.
- Experience with the design of products for EMI, UL, FCC or CSA compliance is preferred but not a hard requirement.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 3-7 years’ work experience, preferably with high volume products.
Pay
The hiring range for this position in the primary work location of Framingham, Massachusetts is: $80,600-$110,750.
